Last week P-Day was on a Tuesday, which normally means by the time the next P-Day on a Monday roles around it feels like there's not as much to do. You don't really need that much more groceries, you don't really have a ton of laundry to do, and nothing really that interesting has happened. All because you're one day off of regular scheduling.
Not this week however, we were jam packed.
Right after P-Day we had exchanges with the Zone Leaders. So I spent the night in the 'Mansion' the apartment with the Ap's and the ZL's. We had a good long talk about this mission, because three of the four guys there are going home the same time as me. We talked about what had changed and what stayed the same. The Ap's admitted that President Shields didn't quite know what to do with the mission once our group went home, because 30 missionaries are going home with us... 30!!! That is practically a fourth of the mission leaving in one day.
After that wonderful exchange we got the opportunity to work our area a bit. It took me a moment to remember that contacting in a city is very different than contacting out in the boonies. City folk are busy, they've got places to be and meetings to attend. The greatest way to talk to them is very simple.
Smiling.
I can count on one hand how many times I've seen someone else besides the missionaries smiling while walking to and from wherever they're going. We talked to a lady named Salwa as we were on our way to the hospital and we gave her a grin and asked how her day was. She looked at us, then smiled and said "I thought smiles had gone extinct here."
Then we went to the hospital to give a blessing to our investigators father. This investigator due to legal complexities never had the opportunity to be baptized until recently, as she met with President Ballard when he came to talk to the stakes in Ontario. She got special permission in her situation to be baptized, and she was super pumped.
Love you all, hope it's cooler down in Utah than it is up here. It went from freezing to melting in two weeks.
